Chests are the various boxes that players can find in The Expanse. All chests except for basic chests require lockpicks to open. The prizes from these chests can include Likes, Ingredients, Dyes, and exclusive Accessories, Furniture, and Enigmas.

Interacting with a chest will trigger a small mini-game, where players will have to use their lockpicks and make their way to the center of the lock. The lock is sealed by multiple rotating rings with gaps, in which players will have to get their lockpick through the gaps until they reach the center. If they fail to get across the gap and hit the ring, the lockpick will break and the player will have to find a new lockpick or use another one. Some treasure chests contain better prizes than others, those chests are harder to open due to faster rotations, having more locks to unlock, and narrower gaps.
An exception to this mechanic would be the flying chests, where it can only be interacted with by colliding with your Avatar.
When walking past a chest you have already opened, it will appear open and you will not be able to interact with it.

Trivia[]
- The Gold chest is sometimes referred to by players as a "glurple" or "golurple" chest because of its gold and purple coloration.
- The Glurple Enigma, which unlocks the Golurple Dye, is a reference to this.
- On May 27th, 2021, Flying Chests were added into the game.
