This page will give you a step-by-step process on creating a page on the Feral Wiki.

Planning Your Page

The first thing you'll want to do when making a page is to plan it out. After a while, this step should come naturally, but if you're new you should check out this section first.

First, ask yourself: Is this page needed? Pages on the Feral Wiki consist of canon content from the game. If your idea fits this description, good! Feel free to continue. If not, consider creating a blog post instead. Some pages that are good examples include:

  • New avatar release
  • New item in stores
  • New quest
  • New game feature

Some pages that are not good examples include:

  • Trade requests
  • Advertisements
  • Game theories
  • Conversation

Most of the non-good examples can alternatively be made in a blog post or discussions post instead.

Next, double-check that the page doesn't already exist. Typically, FANDOM will block you from making duplicate pages if you try to type in the title of an already existing page in the page creator. But sometimes, the page names may not be the exact same (e.g. "Avatar Customization" vs. "Avatar Creator"). Just make sure your page hasn't already been made.

If your page idea passes both of these things, great! Let's move on to making the page.

Guidelines

The following list are some guidelines for creating a page that you should take note of before you start. Again, this part should come naturally after a while.

  • Keep your writing professional! Don't use slang, profanity, or contractions (can't, it's, don't, ect.). Writing must be clear and formal.
  • Use the correct grammar and punctuation! Double check your "there"s, "they're"s, and "their"s; your "you're"s and "your"s; your "two"s, "to"s, and "too"s; your "lose"s and your "loose"s, etc. Make sure punctuation is also correct: Capital letters for the start of a sentence, periods and commas where they belong, etc. Don't make your sentences too long and check for repetition as well!
  • Follow the typical page layout! Links to guides for all types of articles can be found at the bottom of this page. If you don't see one for your page, look up a similar article on the Feral Wiki and copy its layout.
  • Don't forget to give credit! If you are using any information from a source other than yourself or the wiki, you must give credit. This includes images, text, information, or anything else. Usually, a simple "Source: [link]" at the bottom of a page, section, or image caption will suffice.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help! Any of the staff members here at Feral Wiki would be very happy to help you out! Find a list of them here.

Unfinished Pages (Stubs)

All pages on the wiki are valuable, even if they are not finished. If you want to create a page but do not have all of the necessary information to complete it, you can create a stub. Stubs are pages that lack information or images needed to have a complete page. Usually, someone else on the wiki will be able to finish the page for you. You can follow these few guidelines for creating a solid backbone ready for other users to work on.

  • Give the page the "Stub" category. You can do this by writing {{Stub}} at the top of every page in Source editor. Make sure it's written before anything else to have it placed correctly!
  • Add the infobox, even if there's nothing to put in it. Again, the first thing you should always do when making a page is adding the infobox, which is essential for basic information that most people look at to find an answer. Even if you haven't a single thing to add to it, creating an infobox makes it easy for other users to add to it as they see fit and it makes the page look more complete than it may be.
  • Do your best to add a description. If you can't, simply add the text "No relevant information available." Descriptions can be as simple as "The Clucky Enigma is an Enigma. It can be created through the Sketchbook." As long as there is something for others to add onto, it's worth it.
  • Give it the Description and Gallery headings. This lets users know what areas need to be created or edited.
